by MK
After the folded CCWS and merged with the Indy Car series in 2009 with a successful 2010 season, the expected to this 2011 Indy Car Series season will be starting in May 29 under IZOD sponsorship. This will be the 100th of American Open Wheel Racing.
The new 2011 IZOD Indy Car Series brings a lot of new changes in the competition rules. Some of these rules apply to team owners and drivers, even how to communicate with fans. These rules will be applied on-track, the idea is to increase the excitement of these events. These rules alterations were announced by IZOD Indy Car Series president of competition and race operations Brian Banhart.
The series announced on January 11th the name of the governing body, will be renamed INDYCAR in place of the formerly Indy Racing League or (IRL). The Restart zone and the restart area on the ovals will be Double-wide and will be moved near the start finish area about three turns. These rules will start with the Indianapolis 500 on May 29th that is the first oval race´s season. These rules will not be applied to street or road events due to the physical characteristics. Instead of entrant points the Pit Order for the fields will be based on qualifying performance. - "We were looking for ways to reward drivers for their efforts in qualifying"- quoted Banhart.
The pit commit line will be moved to avoid drivers to enter in the no man's land. A cone will identify the start of the zone. These are just a few lines that form part of the new set of rules. Also, plus to the new rules, there will be new races and some of the old ones will be returning. The Baltimore Grand Prix is programmed to start on 2 through 4 of September with 2.4-mile street course around Inner Harbor and Oriole Park. This contract will be running until 2015. The race at New Hampshire returns to the list on August 14th. Also Milwaukee Mile will be returning to the schedule on June 19th. Chicagoland, Watkins Glen, Homestead and Kansas, all those owned by ISC will not return to the schedule.
The races will be broadcasted by ABC and produced by ESPN.
